Home Tours

Making Statements

I love this runner. It makes such a statement!
As does the wooden family to the right of the picture...???

The rest of the house is much like this runner- filled with interesting elements, quirky rooms, and pops of jewel tones. Each room has at least one piece that makes a statement.
See if you can find them....
Are we on quirky fireplace #3 now?

Rock Star Nest

This weekend I will be attending the coldplay concert in Nashville- swinging my arms around like a crazy maniac!!! No, I'm kidding.

Well.... maybe not.

Anyway, it started me thinking... What would it be like to be Chris Martin? Or better yet, Gwyneth Paltrow? And what in the world does their house look like?
Thanks to H&G (a few years back) we get to be freakish stalkers and get a glimpse of this beautiful home!! It might surprise you...
Gwyneth cover

Let's take a step inside their house... shall we?
Living room
TTN: cool coffee table

Gwyneth g1
TTN: There's Chris Martin-right under the white lacquer table.
TTN: I'm digging this wallpaper. I might not have put that painting/print on it, but hey- I also wouldn't name my child Apple.

Dining room
Kitchen 2
TTN: it looks like they came to an agreement in the kitchen- had to have that dash of feminine (light fixtures)

OTTN: Imperial Trellis Wallpaper? Yes Please.
TTN: Stepstool... cute.
Master bedroom
It's really hard to believe Chris Martin lays his head here. I hope he showers first.
TTN: I love that headboard
OTTN: Apple's room. (their oldest daughter) So sad I know this...
TTN: I like how the bed drapery fabric is a bright color on the inside and subtle on the outside. Kind of like a purse with great lining!
TTN: Stepstool again.
Stars.. they're just like US.:They buy in bulk!

I'm green with envy...!! Not because she's married to Chris Martin or because she has beautiful hair and a successful career, but for the sheer fact that I want THIS in my backyard- right next to this.

*my pilates girls will have to agree
If Gwyneth isn't at the concert on Saturday--??.... NOW I KNOW WHY.
And I don't blame her.

Life of an Art Collector

This is another one of my favorite houses- that one could find in my "If I Never Have Kids" folder. Part of me would love an all white, 'no fuss' house- and the other part of me thinks knows I can't live without some color!

Either way, this house is so tailored and beautiful. It was published in Veranda forever ago (I can't find the date) but the designer is Nancy Braithwaite. Apparently the homeowner is an art collector (sign me up!) who wanted her house to be a blank canvas made to showcase the art

Who knew a daybed could look so great??

TTN: chairs in the foreground (I think I know what they are but I could be wrong): I love these chairs. They are the slipcovered low back chairs from Lee Industries...They have a higher back one but something about this short one just does it for me. She's like the little runt of the litter. And they seriously are comfortable. No lie.

LeechairsLeechair5204okay the tall one is cool too.

That polka dotted pillow.... Okay, so now I have a new found love for:

-polka dots

Moving right along...

White dining room

*two separate pictures from the magazine- so if it looks weird on your computer, my bad.

Talk about a mix of old and new. I love this picture. I want to enlarge it and put it on a billboard that reads JUST DO IT

As in...

Mix your grandmother's hand-me-down furniture with something modern, something retro, something traditional... whatever you want. If done in moderation, it has the potential to look amazing. (as seen above)

Another to add to the list:

-polka dots

-giant wire structures that look like organs

For all of you out there who want an 'all white' bedroom- check out these two:

*p.s. Is that a Miro piece above this bed? Wow, she wasn't kidding when she said 'art collector'

This might seem weird but I have seriously looked at the two pictures above over 100 times over the past several years. (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating.) I'm looking at the beds. I like both of them because they have a calming, heavenly feel to them.. but at the same time they are very different.

#1 is relaxed, fluffy, casual but elegant

While #2 is more tailored, sophisticated, no nonsense, you can almost tell that there is no bedskirt (or dirty clothes and missing earrings underneath)

And to this day I can't decide which one I like more. {Although, right now I'm leaning towards #1- it looks more comfortable}

A good mix veranda036

Once again: A good mix.

But I'm just not ready to add "zebra skin" to my new-found-love list. If it was faux, perhaps. But for me, they are much too pretty to step on.

In the article the client says:

"I like the tension between the gutsiness of the art and the serenity of the apartment. I think they're a nice foil for each other."

OTTN: They are.

TTN: Did she just say Apartment???!

When it Rains....

(In my world at least)
I have been neglecting my blog. But I have a good excuse!! Long story short: I have officially gone 100% out on my own!! So I am impatiently going through all of the (boring) steps one has to go through to start their own business. While at the same time trying to keep up with my clients (who I adore for sticking with me through all of this!!)
The dust will settle.
Life will go on.
And in the mean time there will be pictures...

(Remember back in grade school when your 'homeroom' teacher would be out sick and the substitute would come in, sit at the teacher's desk, and play movies all day??)
Consider this one of those days...
Enjoy the (movies)!

This lovely, simple** Santa Barbara abode is home to Victoria Pearson, a photographer for Martha Stewart Living

Wouldn't it be nice...

I'm so happy because It FINALLY feels like summer today in Tennessee!! (Keep this in mind when I'm complaining mid-July)

I am going to lay around by a pool today with friends and do absolutely nothing. This blissful concept reminded me of a Hamptons cottage I saw in House Beautiful a while back.
Wouldn't it be nice if the pool was attached to this little gem?
