A Chapel

In the heart of the woods in Birmingham you might find a chapel.

It's private, unassuming, and in my opinion- perfect.

One of my relatives commissioned the incredibly talented architect, Bill Ingram, to design a quaint chapel tucked in the woods behind their house.

It's simply a quiet retreat. Where you can go to have alone time, pray, or just to be still

On Bill Ingram's website there's a wonderful statement about the art of restraint. I think it's quite fitting for this chapel, this architect, and this blog post... so here is an excerpt:

"It seems that, somewhere along the way, ours has become a cluttered world.

We inhabit cluttered spaces.

IMG_8674

And, in many ways, our thinking reflects that environment with noise - with gadgetry and ornament.

And the spaces we fill are distracting.
IMG_8759

We seek balance in our lives with things

But... balance is found in the art of restraint.

By definition, elegance is the height of art. Elegance and opulence must never be confused - for one chokes the sensuality from the other.

When a space is in harmony it resonates.

It beckons peace.

Creates romance.

IMG_8746

It gives quiet drama to our living.

IMG_8708

 It enhances our spirit."

Well said, Bill.

Here's to finding a space in your home that brings you peace.

Communique

Bobby McAlpine book cover

I've been anxiously awaiting Bobby Mcalpine's new book The Home Within Us that is due out mid April. But today I was reading {one of my new favorite blogs} Limestones and Boxwoods and received some great news.

What would be even better than a Mcalpine book???

His diary?

Oh yes.

Communique is a new online journal (fancier way of saying blog?created by everyone at Mcalpine Tankersley Architecture and Mcalpine Booth and Ferrier Interiors. They say in the intro: "With this new media our aim is to create an outlet to show, on a regular basis, exactly what we're up to.... This is a regular letter to you- a peak into our diary."

Are you kidding me? This is music to any stalker's ears.

This is a picture of their Nashville office... It's almost as clean as mine. :)

So when the world keeps shutting the doors on our beloved magazines we can still hold on to the hope that our favorite designers and architects will find alternate ways to inspire us.

Chateau Love

A friend/reader sent me an email from Houston, Texas letting me know she now works at Chateau Domingue. After looking through the website she clearly meant to say heavenI scrolled through the images sitting alone at my computer and said aloud

Oh.

Ruth-Breakfast

Chateau Domingue is known for importing reclaimed materials and unique architectural elements from all over the world! All sorts of flooring, tiles, light fixtures and furniture. They have 15,000 sq. ft. showroom that I am going to need to see sometime very soon! I can't even imagine what beautiful pieces grace the floors.

I thought I'd spread the love before the weekend with some of their images that will make your heart flutter...

Eye Candy Friday

Benecki Homes. Stan Benecki (luxury builder in Atlanta) and his wife Melanie Turner Benecki (of Turner Davis Interiors) are quite the creative couple. Here's a look inside one of their Atlanta homes:

Then I remembered a Bobby Mcalpine home I've always loved in Rosemary Beach. And guess what? It is a Benecki house too! (look at me connecting the dots on a friday night :)

Fabulous architect + luxury builder + great designer = Power House

I'm pretty sure this power house created a lake home too but I'll save that for another Friday night. :)

Have a good weekend. And stay warm!... wherever you are.
